This year the opening ceremony of the European Heritage Days was held at the Museum of Metsamor. The prestigious event was organized by the Embassy of the European Union in Yerevan. The series of speeches was opened by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, Hasmik Poghosyan. She underlined the importance of the local centres of culture, such as the museum at Metsamor and expressed her gratitude that in-line with her views a small, but important place was chosen to host the event.
In the following speeches both His Excellency Piotr Świtalski, the Ambassador of the European Union, and His Excellency Jerzy Marek Nowakowski, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland have stressed the value of small cultural units. Also, they were glad that this occasion was connected with the closing of the 2016 excavation season of the joint Armenian-Polish team and expressed their deep interest in the gold finds surfacing from the settlement and the cemetery. Both noted the importance of this successful collaboration between the two nations.
Finally, Prof Piliposyan and Dr Jakubiak summed up the results of the recent excavation, underlining the fact that 30 years has passed since the last time a gold object was found within a settlement in Armenia.
